Unboxing Aaru Garden Ancient Egypt Mythology Series 1 Blind Box

  • Product Development & Future Plans

Will you make Egyptian dolls / bjd action figures or any other pantheons or mythology’s?

Yes, our Black Box Studio has always loved mythologies from all over the world. We will continue to focus on Egyptian mythology and expand into other mythological systems. We launched the BJD Anubis in 2016, the oriental mythical fox Mochi BJD in 2017, and the oriental jade lion Foodog BJD in 2019. After 2020, we focused on the Egyptian-themed blind box series Aaru Garden. Now we are about to release the BJD character Maahes. This ancient Egyptian war lion god BJD adopts highly flexible joints with a standard 75cm uncle size. We have devoted a lot of effort to research and development, hoping to bring everyone a brand-new experience.

Can you consider re-releasing some of your articulated Aaru blind box?

We have received plenty of love and expectations for the articulated Aaru series. We have noted your wishes carefully and will evaluate the re-release plan according to fan feedback and overall brand arrangement.

Can you share any upcoming releases or new series for this year?

This year, we will release new derivatives of the movable series Flying Tiger and Egyptian Cat, as well as the oriental mythical deity Tiger Lord Bobby. We will also return to traditional BJD production. Brand-new characters and series are in preparation with many sweet surprises waiting to be revealed gradually.

What about magnetic accessories? Interchangeable hands, weapons, hats, even little capes.

This is such a lovely suggestion! We care a lot about your playing and matching experience. We will take this advice into consideration and add magnetic accessories, including interchangeable hands, weapons, hats and mini capes to enrich the playability.

What is your most popular product so far, and why do you think it succeeded?

Up to now, Aaru Garden and our mythical beast series are highly popular among fans. Their healing cute style, delicate details and our sincere passion for mythology have made them successful. We are truly grateful for every player’s support.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a brand in the collectibles market? Will you ever release behind-the-scenes content (sketches, prototypes, etc.)?

In the competitive collectible market, sticking to our unique style, stabilizing product quality and balancing creation and production are our biggest challenges. We hope to get closer with fans by sharing design sketches, prototypes and behind-the-scenes content in the future.

How do you choose your themes? What makes you pick a certain character or mythology? Fan demand? Personal love?

It is a wonderful combination of personal passion and fan feedback. Our team loves mythology and fantasy themes, and we also listen carefully to fans’ suggestions to create characters and series that everyone adores.

Will you ever release "blank" or unpainted versions for custom painters?

We fully understand the needs of custom painters and DIY creators. We have released unpainted blank versions for our mythical beast series before, providing more creative space for hand-painting and customization lovers.

Have you ever had to cancel a product entirely? What happened?

We fully understand the needs of custom painters and DIY creators. We have released unpainted blank versions for our mythical beast series before, providing more creative space for hand-painting and customization lovers.

More diverse styles in the future? Will you ever make plushies? Please make it happen.

Absolutely. We will not limit ourselves to one single style and will try more diverse designs in the future. Plush dolls are also on our wishlist, and we will try our best to bring more lovely products to fans.

  • Production & Design Process

How many revisions does a face usually go through? I feel like the expression is the hardest part to get right.

Facial sculpt and expression are the parts we polish the most carefully. There is no fixed revision number. Each character’s facial features and temperament will be adjusted repeatedly. We truly believe that vivid expressions are the soul of every figure.

What is the typical timeline from concept to shelf for a new product?

From initial concept, illustration design, prototype sculpting, sample testing to final mass production, the whole process is long and detailed. The schedule varies by design difficulty. We prefer to take our time to present high-quality works to every collector.

What is the average number of sculpting revisions before a design is approved?

Every prototype will be polished and adjusted repeatedly before mass production. The third season of Aaru was completely redesigned three to four times. We only finalize the design until the overall atmosphere and details fully meet our standards.

  • Blessings & Suggestions

  • I hope we get to see more BJD or MJD dolls :)

  • Suggestion: Some of the props/displays shown in your photos should be sold separately. Instead of stating "props not included" in every image, clearly indicate that people can purchase the props or displays.

  • Please consider re-releasing some of your articulated Aaru. I love your Aaru and own a few of the different mystery box versions.

  • I love the recent version 3 of the gods. I hope you make more of that style since it is so cute. I would love to see Isis since she is one of my favorites. Keep up the amazing work.

  • Make stuff with fairies.

  • I hope more blind boxes from the Aaru Kindergarten series are released with different gods. They are of high quality and great detail, perfect for anyone who loves Egyptian gods.

  • Please consider adding more diverse body types and skin tones to your character lineup.

  • They are well-made with plenty of heavy accessories and are so cute, especially Anubis. I love them so much.

  • Blessings for steady growth and creative freedom — don’t lose your unique voice.

  • I hope to see future collaborations with small creators and indie comic artists.

  • Your designs are brilliant and lovely, good job and well done.Above all, keep making toys that tell a story.

  • I expect more transparent communication on delays or production changes.

  • I don't know who designed your figures. The proportions, the expressions, the tiny details, the color choices, the accessory design — everything is just perfect.

  • May every sketch that was made with care get a chance to become a physical figure.
